Thread Lift

What is thread lift?

Thread lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that’s used as an alternative to facelift surgery.

How does it work?

Thread lift involves inserting medical-grade thread material into one’s face. Once the thread is inserted, it is tightened, which causes it to “pull” and tighten the skin as well. Doing this creates the appearance of younger-looking skin.

In what areas can I do thread lift?

Common areas for thread lifts include:

  • lips
  • glabellar lines
  • neck
  • chin
  • marionette lines
  • nasolabial folds

Are there any risks or side effects?

As with all treatments, there are always potential risks and side effects. The most common side effects of thread lift include:

  • bruising
  • swelling
  • some bleeding
  • slight pain at site of thread injection

Some less common risks/side effects include:

  • allergic reaction
  • migration of threads, resulting in skin that looks lumpy
  • infection
  • extreme pain

Do’s and Don’t’s: Preparing for a thread lift

Before committing to getting a thread lift done, here are some important do’s and don’t’s to follow:

DO

  • steer clear of known inflammation triggers
  • inform your doctor of any medications you’re taking prior to the procedure
  • avoid stressors as much as possible before your appointment

DON’T

  • drink alcohol the night before your procedure
  • take any blood thinning medication or NSAIDS (such as ibuprofen) for at least one week before your procedure

What does the recovery process look like?

Recovering from a thread lift doesn’t usually take long. Usually, it’s recommended to wait a couple of days before returning to work or doing strenuous activities, since a bit of bruising and swelling is normal.

How long do results last?

While treatment efficacy will always vary from person to person, typically results will begin to show right away. Additionally, thread lift results should last 1-3 years, depending on how quickly the tissue underneath the skin absorbs the threads.
